With decades of experience in Owner, EPC, Contractor and consulting roles, our staff appreciate the challenges faced by those engaged in the heavy construction industry: from the crucial early days of a project, through safety critical construction activities, to the final act of commissioning. This is why we our diverse team of talented Engineers and Project Managers can support our Client, using both technical and practical experience throughout each phase of their Project.
Integrating with the Client team, we provide advice that guides decision making in relation to all strategic, logistical, economic, scheduling, design and operational aspects, leading to the optimal solution, tailored to meet specific project needs.
A significant amount of our work on a Project is in ‘risk management’; using our system of 3rd party Technical Check and Safety Audit. We scrutinize the technical proposals of Process equipment designers and specialist construction Contractors, addressing any errors, omissions and interface issues. This has been proven to significantly reduce incidents.
Our role does not relieve Contractors of their contractual obligations, but protects the Client under ‘Duty of Care’ and due diligence commitments. Experience shows that in addition to Safety, the secondary benefit of improved efficiency is gained from this exacting process. Our pro-active review comments add value to Contractor’s studies, advancing the engineering status and eliminating unnecessary additional engineering cycles.
Our Clients acknowledge that by engaging our services incident rates are reduced while efficiency is increased during both new construction and critical planning for operations in live process plants. We add value by facilitating safe efficient progress of construction activities.
Structural & Design Engineering
We pride ourselves on the ability to design load transportation and lifting schemes together with permanent or temporary structures that are innovative, practical, economical and safe to construct.
Our ‘hands-on’ experience of construction equipment for load movement is comprehensive and unique. The company provides a Professional Engineering service, independent of load movement Contractors and suppliers.
Our permanent team of licensed Professional Engineers including structural experts have PC and CAD support with the latest engineering software packages, including Mathcad and Finite Element (FE) analysis. Problems identified are solved using our technical knowledge and hands-on experience, producing engineered solutions that can be sensibly and economically implemented.
Lift & Transportation Planning
At Lowther-Rolton we appreciate that the planning for every day lifting and transport operations, frequently overlooked and disrespected, demands the same focus and diligence as major lifts of a more ‘spectacular’ nature. Similarly, we are aware that lifts in off-site areas and laydown yards can often be overlooked.
We pledge to our Clients that we shall demonstrate our well-known attention to detail when preparing documentation for a simple task, or a major, complex event. Our highly experienced staff have planned, documented and executed hundreds of successful lifting and transport operations without incident.
Our drawings, prepared in AutoCAD, are backed by calculations for transport stability and lashing, crane outrigger and crawler forces, loadspreading, rigging geometry and capacity. We have developed in-house programs and couple these with the latest software packages for structural modelling and analysis.

Bringing decades of experience, our site supervisors and engineers have lived and breathed Construction projects in all locations and environments. With Safety infused throughout all of our processes, we proactively check the preparation for all operations, monitoring schedule and seeking opportunities for improved methods, means and schedules. We continue our philosophy of Technical Audit to meticulously check that engineering is implemented accurately in the field.
Lowther-Rolton believes the adage that ‘planning makes perfect’, but equally experience has taught us that things change, sometimes everything changes. That is why we ensure that all technical documentation comes complete with a Management of Change policy. When our site engineers integrate into a Client’s team as advisors, it is assured that any alteration to the plan shall be scrutinized and considered in the context of the overall operation and approvals gained. Only when all aspects have been reviewed and agreed shall the work continue.
